How We Verify Deals

“50% off” means nothing if the price was quietly raised the week before. A deal is only real if you can hold today's price against its own history.

That's the entire idea behind Vigil — and it's not a slogan, it's a database.

Every check is recorded

Vigil scans each tracked product every six hours. Every single check — not just the drops — gets written to a price_history table with the price and an exact timestamp. Nothing is overwritten. Over time that builds an honest, append-only record of what a product has truly cost, which is the one thing retailers would rather you didn't have.

A drop has to beat its own past

When a price moves, we don't just compare it to a crossed-out “list price.” We compare it to where it's actually been. A drop only earns a spot on the live deals board when it clears your target or undercuts its own recent floor — and the sparkline next to it shows the real trend, fake sales included.

Full reports are coming

This category — Verified Price Drops — is where the receipts will live. The history table is young; it started logging the moment the pipeline went live and gets richer with every scan. As the data deepens, we'll publish individual deal breakdowns here: the 30/60/90-day low, how long a price held, and whether a “sale” was real or theater. Watch this space — literally, that's the brand.
